ON STAGE – IDEA COMPETITION FOR THE URBAN RENEWAL OF THE AREA OPPOSITE THE SORELLE MILANOLLO CIVIC THEATER, City of Savigliano, 2^nd place

Description: The project strategy aims at a coherent renewal of the urban area facing the Civic Theater.
The new “piazza” is a flexible space: an area of transit, connection and socialization in everyday life but also a space for outdoor events, concerts, theatrical performances and markets.

The theater’s staircase becomes the stage for outdoor performances, the pale stone square holds the audience and the front of the building forms the backdrop, emphasizing the relationship between interior and exterior.
The creation of the new public area develops through the following steps:

• demolition of the solid brick wall that emerged as the first element generating “urban chaos”
• reduction of motorized traffic
• reorganization of current parking spaces
• differentiation of the pavement throughout the project area with blocks of stone, a material already present in other pedestrian areas of the city’s historical center.
